Honey Badger hunting in Namibia

Honey Badgers punch far above their weight and are highly respected, by even the largest of predators. Their thick, loose skin also protects them from predator bites. Honey Badgers occur country-wide in Namibia and are highly adapted to surviving in harsh dry habitats. Although being mostly nocturnal they are often found foraging for food during the day. Honey Badgers have short stout legs and long claws. This enables them to dig holes and break open rotten logs to find food. Their feed food consists mostly of grubs and insects. Snakes and carrion also form part of their food preferences. They also raid beehives in search of grubs and the bee stings sustained during these raids are unable to penetrate their thick skins. Honey Badgers are best hunted over bait. They are actually often a nuisance at a Leopard baiting site, as no Leopard will visit the bait while a Honey Badger is present. They are strong tree climbers, so even by placing the bait in a tree, Honey Badgers are often able to reach the carcass. Classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, no import or export CITES permits are required.
