Yellow billed duck hunting in South Africa {{ totalToursString }}
Yellow-billed Duck is easily identified by their bright yellow bill. From a distance, their plumage looks darkish, similar to an African Black Duck but they are much browner. At close range, their pale feather edges give a scaled appearance. In flight, they have a blue-green speculum.
Yellow-billed Duck can be hunted throughout the country.
These ducks prefer open still water bodies and can be found on freshwater lakes, ponds, lagoons, estuaries and even flooded fields. They eat plant matter, snails and insect larvae and occur in pairs or large flocks and are best hunted with several guns stationed along a watercourse causing the birds to fly from one water source to the next.
Yellow-billed Ducks are classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, no special hunting permits are required. Bag limits apply according to the nature conservation regulations for the particular province where you are hunting.
