Tsessebe hunting in Namibia

Tsessebe (Sassaby) are a smaller and darker version of a Hartebeest. Subspecies like the East African Topi, Korrigum and Tiang look very similar. Tsessebe has a prominent shoulder hump and sloping back. They are reddish-brown and have dark faces and a metallic purple sheen on the shoulders. Both sexes have half-moon-shaped horns. Tsessebe naturally occurs in the Zambezi Province (originally known as the Caprivi) and has been introduced further inland to some of the game ranches. Tsessebe is a gregarious species occurring in small breeding herds. Territorial bulls are solitary. They are a water-dependent species feeding on medium to tall open savannah grasslands, preferring fresh growth, especially in recently burnt areas. They are the fastest antelope in the region but being inquisitive animals they often stop to look back allowing the hunter to take a shot. Tsessebe is classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN and no special hunting permits are required other than a standard Namibian hunting license which will be prearranged by your outfitter.
