About this hunt
Alberta offers some of the best moose hunting in North America—not just for trophy potential, but for the quality of the experience. It’s not just a hunt; it’s a story you’ll tell for the rest of your life.
The air is sharp with the scent of spruce and larch, and the low sun bathes the forest in gold. It’s prime moose country. We have been scouting for years and know the perfect place. On this particular morning, the fog hangs low over the river valley. We set up on a ridge overlooking a marsh where we have recently seen fresh tracks and rubs.
As the first light breaks, we begin cow calling—a slow, moaning call that carries for miles. Minutes later, you hear it: a low grunt. Then antlers raking brush. He’s coming.
You catch a glimpse—massive, chocolate-brown shoulders pushing through the willows. He’s a mature bull, 45-50 inches wide, paddles thick and scarred from battles past.
At 80 yards, he stops broadside, scanning for the cow. You steady your rifle, heart pounding. One shot. Clean. Ethical. He drops. The forest goes quiet.
You kneel beside the bull. His breath has stopped. You feel a mix of pride, gratitude, and humility. It’s not just a kill—it’s a rite of passage.
At camp that night, you fry tenderloin over an open fire, steam rising into a cold northern night. Northern lights shimmer overhead. You don’t say much. You don’t have to say anything at all!
