Nestled in the rolling hills of the Nhlamvini Valley in KwaZulu-Natal, Nhlamvini Private Game Reserve is a family-run conservation enterprise and the home of Watervale Safaris. We are deeply rooted in this landscape, and our operation is built around family values, personal service, and authentic African hospitality. We specialize in exclusive, private safaris. When you book with us, the concession and lodge are reserved solely for your group—no shared camps, no overlapping hunts, and no compromises. This exclusivity allows for a relaxed, unhurried safari experience tailored entirely to your goals and expectations.
Our hunting philosophy is founded on sustainable, ethical, fair-chase, age-based trophy hunting. Each season, quotas are set conservatively and with strict discipline, targeting only older animals that are past their breeding prime. For this reason, the number of hunts we conduct each year is intentionally limited, ensuring minimal pressure on wildlife and maximum quality of experience.
The reserve offers exceptional habitat diversity, ranging from dense riverine thickets in the valleys to open grasslands supporting herds of Blesbuck and Springbuck. Large portions of the reserve are rugged and largely inaccessible by vehicle, providing true sanctuary for wildlife and allowing animals such as Greater Kudu, Nyala, and Bushbuck to mature into outstanding trophies.
Nhlamvini Private Game Reserve is also home to a healthy and well-managed population of Cape Buffalo, offering some truly outstanding buffalo hunts each season. These hunts are conducted under the same strict ethical and conservation-driven principles that guide all of our operations, resulting in challenging, fair-chase encounters and exceptional bulls.
With over 23 huntable species and hands-on guidance from our professional hunting team, every safari directly contributes to the conservation and long-term protection of this habitat. Hunting with us is not only a world-class experience—it is a meaningful investment in wildlife, land stewardship, and the future of ethical African hunting.

About this hunt

Our hunting season runs all year round, with certain species being more successful during certain times of the year, enquire with us directly for the best times of year to book. All huntable species are subject to availability and we reserve the right to remove one of the species on offer according to the sustainability of that animal at the time. Clients will be designated a professional hunter for the duration of their stay. Most of our hunting is undertaken using the ‘spot and stalk, ‘stand’ and ‘still’ method. Our hunts are fair-chase and we pride ourselves in ethical and respectful hunting practices. Shots vary between 100-300 yards, we recommend you practice shooting from the long bipod shooting sticks as they are often used. We have traditionally been a rifle-hunting destination but in recent years, the bow-hunting trend has made its mark at us too. Success has been recorded with Impala, Bushbuck, Warthog and Bush Pig have also often featured in the bow hunters’ bags. Species are abundant so no traveling beyond the reserve is required to begin the hunt, enabling multiple attempts at these species with the bow during the entire safari. Various other species can provide hunters with surprise opportunities.

Hunting is conducted in over 12 000 acres of lush riverine and mountain habitats. With vast areas of wilderness, only accessible on foot, an extensive sanctuary where Nyala bulls and Bushbuck rams can live and grow to truly exceptional proportions. In addition, there is 5 000 acres of game rich habitat on neighbouring properties where for many years we have had and continue to enjoy exclusive hunting rights.

Where you will stay

Bush Camp

The Bush Camp is situated in the North Eastern side of the reserve. Nestled in the valley with some spectacular views and the sound of a flowing river below, this exclusive lodge offers guests a quite, secluded bush experience. The morning chorus of birds around the lodge is spectacular and with the far reaching views, guests are often treated with sightings of plains game and Buffalo that frequent the area for grazing and browsing. The lodge comprises of: - A two bedroom cottage with one shared bathroom and can sleep 4 - Three en- suite chalets. One chalet has a double bed and the other two chalets have two single beds each. - Main Lounge with Large deck leading outside - Dining Room - Kitchenette - Outdoor barbecue and boma fire area
