Springbok hunting in Botswana

Springbok are native to the Kalahari Desert in Botswana. This particular species is also known as the Kalahari or Western Springbuck. These Springbuck have impressive horns compared to the Common Springbuck and feature a coat that ranges from light fawn to cinnamon-brown, adorned with dark brown to black side stripes, a white underbelly, and chest. Its facial markings are distinctively white with brown stripes. The name "Springbuck" comes from the Afrikaans word “spring,” meaning "jump," and refers to the animal's characteristic jumping behaviour. During the rut and when excited, these elegant antelopes perform a remarkable pronk, or stotting display, where they bounce on all fours and display a white crest of fur on their arched backs. This behaviour is thought to demonstrate strength and fitness, although its exact purpose remains uncertain. Beyond its role as a sought-after trophy, the Springbuck meat is prized for its quality, offering perfect family-sized roasts and highly valued venison. The species is classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, and hunting it requires no special hunting permits.
