Spotted Hyena hunting in Cameroon
We found 2 hunts
Two Hyena species occur in Cameroon, namely, the Spotted Hyena and the Striped Hyena. The Spotted Hyena is the more common species and the easier of the two to hunt. They occur in the northern savannah regions of the country.
Spotted Hyenas are also found in packs, known as clans that are dominated by a female matriarch. Spotted Hyena is much larger and has much stronger jaw muscles able to crack open a giraffe leg bone. The Spotted Hyena's jaws are reputedly stronger than that of a Grizzly Bear.
These animals are extremely vocal and are normally baited. However, unlike some Southern African countries, no hunting may occur after dark in Cameroon or with the use of an artificial light.
Hyenas are classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN.
