Ostrich hunting in Botswana {{ totalToursString }}
There are two species of Ostrich in Africa and three Common Ostrich subspecies of which only one is found in Botswana.
The Southern or Rhodesian Blue Ostrich was formerly found throughout Botswana and is now mostly confined to National Parks and the multiple hunting concession found within the country. This massive flightless bird has long legs and neck with a relatively small head for its size.
Male Ostriches are almost black and the females are grey. They can run at 70 km/h (43.5 mph), making them the fastest terrestrial bird and also lay the largest egg of any land-living animal, the equivalent of 24 chicken eggs. They have been domesticated and bred for their feathers, leather and their meat is also very popular.
Ostriches are listed as an animal of least concern by the IUCN.
