Oryx hunting in Ethiopia

The Beisa Oryx is the only Oryx species found in Ethiopia. Scimitar Horned Oryx are now extinct in Ethiopia. Three subspecies of Beisa Oryx occur in the country, namely, the Lakipia Beais Oryx in the extreme southwest, Galla Beisa Oryx in the south and eastern areas and the Common Beisa Oryx in the northeastern regions. Beisa Oryx inhabits Ethiopia's vast and varied landscapes. It can be found in diverse ecosystems and is primarily hunted in certain regions of the country. This species boasts remarkable adaptations to the arid and semi-arid regions it inhabits. Ethiopia has a long-standing tradition of regulated hunting, allowing a limited number of permits for specific species. The country has established strict regulations and guidelines to ensure sustainable hunting practices and support conservation efforts. Beisa Oryx are classified as endangered by the IUCN and may be hunted in Ethiopia.
