Impala hunting in South Africa

A graceful very common bushveld species, Impala is preyed on by everyone in the food chain including the camp cook, and is known as the McDonalds of Africa. This medium sized animal is often hunted as a first time client’s beginner species. Hunted for the first time to break the ice on your first African safari, then again to improve the trophy size on your first animal, then again and again for leopard baits or as a popular source of venison by meat hunters. The general rule of thumb is, Springbuck hunting is available in the dry western part of the country and Impala in the bushveld regions (Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces) of the east. Impala may be hunted across the country on the majority of game farms, however traditionally the best trophies were always taken from the northern Limpopo province territories. Born and bred in South Africa are the numerous Impala colour variant species that are now available for hunting on many game ranches in South Africa. These include the following species: Black Impala, Saddle backed Impala and White flanked Impala. No special permits are required to hunt these species.
