Impala hunting in Botswana

Impalas are a common species of savannahs and due to their numbers are popularly hunted by predators and man alike. These animals are extremely agile and only the males have horns and will defend a territory during the peak of the rut in April – May. They can also be found in large bachelor groups. Impalas are only found in the Okavango Delta region and the eastern parts of Botswana. These well-adapted animals can be found in large numbers in these areas but cannot survive in the more arid regions of the country where they are replaced by Springbuck. For many first-time hunters to Africa, this will be the first animal they ever hunt. Impalas are hunted for the pot, staff rations, bait animals and as trophy animals. Impalas are very alert animals and difficult to stalk when in a herd giving a short blasting snort at the first signs of danger. Prearranged hunting licenses are required to hunt an Impala and no special permits are required to export this species.
