The Matetsi Units are free-range, fair chase hunting areas within an hours drive of the famous Victoria Falls, unfenced, wild and renowned for quality dangerous game, Sable and a variety of plains game. Unit 5 is the best-located unit as it is directly adjoined to the Hwange National Park by a 42-kilometre unfenced boundary with the Hwange National Park, a 5000 square mile wildlife reserve home to over 60 000 elephants, countless buffalo, abundant lion and leopard and a myriad of plains game. the concessions is 390 square kilometres squared, the biggest of all the Matetsi Units. The natural springs mean that there is natural drinking water year-round making the unit a hot spot for animals from the adjoining Hwange National Park. The rolling hills and valleys are a perfect area for the resident elephants, buffalos, lions, leopards, sable, roan and a whole host of plains game, besides the resident populations that live in Unit 5 there are also migratory animals moving into and out of the Unit at all times of the year. We have a very good Leopard population and big sized cats, with us not hunting in 2020 you can expect to shoot a big Leopard. Elephant hunting in Dande South is seasonal with the prime time being early season from March to May. The reason for this is because the local villagers crops ripen during this time and this attracts bulls from both Mozambique and the neighboring national parks safari areas which have no crops. Buffalo hunting in Dande is very good as is the whole of the lower Zambezi Valley, this is typical track and stalk hunting and success rate on mature representative buffalo is over 90%. Like any area a bit of hard work and extra effort can see very favourable results for buffalo with bulls in excess of 40 inches being take. The best time of year is May through October. Lion and Leopard hunting in Dande South is superb, being a CAMPFIRE area, which allows hunting after dark success rate in lion and leopard is close to 100%. The main method of hunting cats is by baits and blinds. This is also one of the few areas left in Africa where lioness can be hunted and this is because of the over population of lion in the area which has necessitated lioness being put on quota as a management tool. Plains game hunting in Dande can be rewarding but clients need to know that like all big game areas where the plains game is not protected by high fences it can be tough at times. Dande does however have a good population of sable, kudu, zebra, impala, bushbuck, warthog and hyena. The Hunyani and Angwa Rivers and their tributaries also offer crocodile and hippo. We operate on strict quotas and cannot offer all species to every client, as such please ensure at the time of booking your safari, the specific species you want to hunt are available. 7 - 10 DAY HIPPO & CROCODILE HUNT The Sengwe (Tribal Trust Land) hunting area includes Crooks Corner (the border between Zimbabwe, Mozambique and South Africa) on the Zimbabwean side that is within in our concession and is a real hot spot for dagga boys and trophy elephant bulls. This area is strong year-round and well known for top trophy quality Elephant and Buffalo, plus Hippo and Crocodile. Also available are the occasional Eland and Kudu bulls that are found in the concessions although the real strength in this area is the big game. There are people living in and around these areas in a low population density, a scenario that has always has been the case since the days that Hemmingway and Bvenkye Barnard hunted here.

Tuskless and bull elephant hunts are conducted in much the same old fashioned way - of cutting tracks and following them. A typical hunt would consist of driving the key roads in the morning looking for tracks, and then once a sufficient track is found, it is followed. Both bull and tuskless hunts are extremely exciting and offer a great insight into the skills of our trackers and knowledge of our PHs.

A typical days hunting involves driving around the concession looking for spoor or fresh signs of the animals you want to hunt. Once the spoor is found, we set out on foot tracking the animal until found. If a suitable trophy is located, then a walk and stalk hunt will commence.

We are professionals and we like hunting the classic way. Big game hunting is done mainly on foot, by stalking. To approach dangerous game is an art and situations during a hunt can change any second. To get our clients as close as possible to their preferred game is our goal. If you want to experience hunting free ranging dangerous game, that way we appreciate it. We strictly do not hunt from cars. As most shots on dangerous game are fairly below 70 yards, we advise you to practice off hand shooting or from bipods, the so called shooting sticks... and use enough gun.
