We found 1 hunt
Defassa Waterbuck in Tanzania is recognised as a separate species from the most recognisable Waterbuck, the Common Waterbuck. The most defining difference is the absence of the white ring around the tail which is replaced by a white splash covering approximately the same area as the white ring in the case of a Common Waterbuck.
Nine subspecies of Defassa Waterbuck occur in Africa, two of which occur in Tanzania, these being the Ugandan Defassa Waterbuck and the more common Serengeti Defassa Waterbuck both of which are just listed as East African Defassa Waterbuck.
Defassa Waterbuck have long shaggy oil covered hair with a repugnant smell. Defassa Waterbuck are particularly fond of the wet swampy areas of Western Tanzania and will take to the water when threatened.
Tanzania's hunting season usually runs from July to December, with permits and licenses required for legal hunting. It is crucial to adhere to the regulations set by the Tanzanian Wildlife Authority and are recognised as a species of least concern by the IUCN.
