Common duiker hunting in Mozambique

Common Duiker is classified as a pygmy antelope in the Safari Club Record Book. They are also known as Grey or Bush Duiker. Unlike most Duiker species only the males have horns, with pointed ears and a dark tuft of hair on the forehead. Their colour varies from grey to reddish-brown and the females are generally bigger body wise than the males. Common Duiker is a highly adaptable species and found countrywide from the coast to the inland highland forests. Although not a highly sought after species they can be hunted in hunting areas. Common Duiker is predominantly hunted at dawn and dusk before resting up for the day. The males are very territorial and defend these areas from other intruders. They have exceptional speed and stamina, making them able to outrun most predators. When running in full flight they make a diving motion from which they derived their name as the word duiker means diver in Afrikaans. Classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, no special hunting permits are required. A Mozambican hunting license must be purchased before the hunt.
