Black-And-White Colobus hunting in Ethiopia

Black-and-white Colobus Monkeys, also known as Mantled Guereza, derive their name from the Greek word for “mutilated”. Unlike most other monkeys they do not have a thumb. They have the most beautiful black fur and a long bushy tail that strongly contrasts with the white facial and mantle hair. These arboreal forest monkeys seldom descend to the ground. Black-and-white Colobus Monkeys can only be hunted in the lowland and montane forests of Ethiopia. These monkeys live in territorial troops using branches as trampolines to leap 15 metres (50 feet) into the air and then fall with outstretched arms and feet to grab onto a branch. It is believed that the long hair and tail act as a parachute when jumping between trees. Their diet is strictly leafy foliage and they can digest toxic leaves. Black-and-white Colobus Monkeys are considered as a species of least concern by the IUCN. However, if trophies are imported to the United States, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has special import regulations that concern the importation of these trophies
