Alpine Chamois/Gemse (Rupicapra rupicapra) Chamois are often seen as a ‘lesser’ trophy than the Tahr in New Zealand but they are equally challenging to hunt.They are attractive in both their tussock colored summer coats and their black winter coats, making them a great animal to hunt regardless of the season. Chamois are an extremely agile and fast-moving animal and they can inhabit some serious mountain terrain, making for some truly exciting hunting. The Chamois rut generally overlaps with Tahr rut, May to June but they can be hunted year-round. Summer coats are best in January-March. A male/buck and female/doe Chamois look almost identical but the buck’s horns have a ‘heavier’ appearance and a more defined ‘hook’. Our wilderness hunts are helicopter drop-off with tent camps. A good level of fitness is essential on these hunts to ensure you have an enjoyable experience.We focus on finding mature bucks over 9 inches but on the odd occasion we do shoot very old and barren does. Chamois hunts run 90-100% each year with our average buck 9 inches. Chamois hunts can be combined with Tahr in our wilderness areas.

New Zealand has some of the best Tahr hunting in the world. Tahr have drawn hunters from around the world to New Zealand to hunt these magnificent animals. They are known for the steep, rugged and remote habitat they live in and look very majestic in our mountains with their beautiful winter cape. The package includes 5 hunting days and 4 nights - 1 hunter / 1 guide and 1 trophy Chamois. For Tahr & Chamois hunts we suggest the use of a helicopter to access higher hunting terrain. Additional cost for helicopter is approximately $1,500 - $2,500. This cost is reduced if the helicopter is shared with other hunters.

We offer genuine free range wild meat hunts for Red deer, Fallow deer, South Pacific Goat, also cull stags and bucks at guides discretion on their rugged picturesque country. There are no charges for the Trophies harvested, all you pay is your daily rate. Minimum 3 day hunt. Our hunting/guide ratio is 2:1. Genuinely wild and free range, authentic New Zealand hunting experience. There are no high wire fences and no farm released genetics. Your hunt will be fully catered to your level of fitness and experience, and the guides are fully committed to providing you the best adventure possible. You can bring your own legal firearms, however you are most welcome to use our fit for purpose, accurate firearms. The cost for one or two hunters is $1150 (ie one guide) then each hunter after that is $575 each. Meat hunts can be booked all year round. The Roar usually takes place from late March until late April. We continue to trophy hunt until August, at which point the large stags are near to casting their antlers. The Roar or the Rut is the best time to hunt Deer in NZ, being the mating season when species such as Red, Sika and Fallow Deer become quite vocal and therefore are easier to locate. The Red Deer begin to rut during late March and through April, with the Sika Stags and Fallow Bucks beginning in April and continuing through May. Although the rut is the most popular time to hunt, very often the period after is just as productive. If you want to hunt wild boar or goats, the time of the year is not critical, good trophies can be taken all year round. Your guide will cape and salt your trophies. Mounting can be arranged here in New Zealand and you may have your trophies dispatched freight forward by air freight to your specified destination. The Taxidermist will complete all necessary documentation and bill you directly. Please inquire for available dates.

We have earnt the reputation as the leading free range foot hunting outfitting company for hunting Tahr on private Wilderness land. With 4 private properties ranging from 16,000- 47,000 acres gives us the ability to hunt areas according to weather patterns and hunters ability. As all our properties are within 35 mins of our own All Seasons lodge we can hunt each day from here, or if you would prefer stay in one of the private cabins right on the property. This all cuts down on valuable time which is not spent travelling. 1 hunter and non hunter is included with the option to add additional trophy Bulls, game, days and hunters or non hunters. This a spot and stalk hunt where we can glass Bull Tahr from the truck to asses trophy quality, or for those die hard mountain hunters we can climb into the back basins up high to go after those solitary old Bull Tahr.

Already have a Red Stag trophy? This combo is pure alpine hunting for Tahr and Chamois. Get ready for amazing views, exciting hunting and a true mountain hunt. Includes all helicopter fees and 5 days of daily rate! Our tahr hunts are on foot and for our West Coast wilderness hunts we access our spike camp by helicopter. This allows us to hunt these magnificent animals in the beauty and serenity of their alpine home, undisturbed by the influences of man. Our guides are very experienced at hunting tahr and over the years we have had a very high success rate harvesting top quality trophies including the current World Record #1 Himalayan Tahr taken in 2012 on wilderness land. The tahr rut is from May to July and the best time to hunt tahr in their long winter coats is from April through August. Chamois can be hunted all year round but during the rut is the best time when their lush dark winter coat is at its best. We hunt chamois from March through August and the rut is May/June. Chamois make a fine trophy and are a worthy game animal to pursue.
