Where to hunt Alpine Chamois
The Alpine chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra rupicapra) is a highly prized mountain game species of Europe. As typical for mountain animals, chamois populations on isolated mountain ranges develop specific features, and are classified as different subspecies. So, the Balkan chamois exists in the Balkans, Pyrrenean chamois in the Pyrenees between France and Spain, and so on. Alpine chamois, as the name suggests, is native to the Alps, the mountain range in the heart of Europe. An introduced population also thrives in New Zealand. Top destinations for Alpine chamois hunting include Austria and France. When looking for an Alpine chamois hunt, bear in mind that this is, so to speak, the default subspecies of chamois. Many outfitters in the Alpine chamois range list their hunts as simply “chamois”, so if you haven’t found what you’re looking for on this page, try broadening your search to the generic chamois page and use map view to look for the hunts in the Alpine chamois range. This can be tricky - for instance, in France you can find both Alpine chamois hunts in Auvergne-Rhône-Alps and Pyrenean chamois in Occitanie, so make sure you book the precise subspecies you’re looking for - but who said mountain hunting is easy?
Распределение цен
Alpine chamois hunts vary in price depending on the country, terrain, and outfitter services. Normally, they fall within €3,500 to €7,000 range, depending on number of days, accommodation and meals, location, and trophy size. This said, chamois hunting is perhaps the most affordable of the true mountain hunts, and often comes with flat trophy fees. The most expensive offers are combination hunts, which allow hunters to pursue other game species such as red deer, mouflon, or ibex, and in New Zealand also tahr.
When to hunt Alpine Chamois?
In New Zealand chamois hunting is available pretty much throughout the year, with the best time believed to be between May and July. In Europe, hunting seasons may run from mid-summer to the end of winter. The best time depends on weather conditions in the specific mountain range but the rut, that usually happens in October-November, is usually hard to beat.
