In need of a Northwestern California elk hunting guide? A Northwestern California bull elk tag is perhaps the most coveted Roosevelt tag in the state. Only a handful of bull and either-sex tags are up for lottery every year and the hunt unit is expansive. Low pressure, rutting bulls, and room to roam – what more could a hunter ask for? How about someone who lives and works in the hunt unit who knows the elk, has years of experience calling, and who can get the animal out for you in a timely manner? Roosevelt elk are no stranger to steep, thick, nasty country. The primary tactic for targeting big bulls in the Northwest unit is calling, action can be fast and up close. There is also some opportunity for spot and stalk. We hunt elk on public land in the Northwestern unit. The unit is so big and tags extremely scarce so some of the herds in the zone have never seen human hunting pressure because hunters often focus on private land. If you have already drawn or you are sitting on a pile of elk points and are thinking about putting in for the Northwestern elk zone give us a call. 2022 Season Hunt Dates: 2023 is not set yet but it should be similar Antlerless (Hunt Code 374): September 7 – 29 Bull (Hunt Code 355): September 7 – 29 Either-sex (Hunt Code 483): September 7 – 29 *Deer and bear season slightly overlap with elk season at the beginning and tail end of the elk season. Rates for a Northwest California elk hunt is below. Price includes accommodations. We offer longer hunts as well, at least a 4+ day hunt is recommended. 4 day/ 4 night = $5,400 4 day/ 5 night = $5,600 5 day/ 5 night = $6,000 5 day/ 6 night = $6,200 6 day/ 6 night = $6,600 6 day/ 7 night = $6,800 7 day/ 7 night = $7,200 7 day/ 8 night = $7,400 Deposit will be refunded if tag is not drawn.

We have permits to operate in the Trinity Alps, Marble Mountains, Russian, and Siskiyou Wilderness areas and the surrounding National Forest land. Operating under special use permit on portions of the Klamath, Shasta-Trinity, and Six Rivers National Forests. We are an equal opportunity provider.

Wilderness Camp
Classic wilderness camp. Comfortable but not lavish camp to access lower pressured haunts in remote sections of the wilderness and National Forest. Sleeping arrangements in wilderness camps include tent (or tarp if the guest prefers), sleeping bag, sleeping pad, and pack pillow.
Backcountry Camps
Backcountry camps are in comfortable vehicle accessible locations in the National Forest. This is your classic hunting style camp. We utilize dispersed camping areas along the many beautiful rivers and creeks in the area. Scenery and privacy is unbeatable. We setup camps before the guest arrives based on pre-season scouting. We like to be in the best location to access the desired species. Sleeping arrangements are tent, cot, sleeping pad, sleeping bag, and pillow. Tent heaters are used depending on time of the year and weather. Some camps have pit toilets, most do not.

Hunters will meet the guide in Orleans, CA. We are centered between three wilderness areas and surrounded by huge swaths of public land. Endless hunting opportunities await. Orleans is situated on Highway 96 and is approximately 5 hours from the Sacramento International Airport, 1.5-2 hours from Eureka/Arcata area, and 3 hours from Medford.

- Meals for paid days of the hunt – usually simple foods and snacks, such as, sandwiches, jerky, salami, pepperoni sticks, fresh fruits and vegetables, dried fruit, trail mix, candy bars, and prepared freeze-dried meals. Please let us know of any allergies or preferences.
- Sleeping arrangements for paid nights –tent, properly rated sleeping bag, and sleeping pad. Guests are welcome to provide their own if preferred.
- A knowledgeable and experienced guide.
- Transportation from a pre-arranged meeting location to the field where we will begin our hunt.
- Field care and pack out of meat and trophies.

- Outfitter shall hold Clients deposit and apply it against the total fee of the hunt.
- A. If Client terminates this Agreement at least 90 days before the beginning of the Trip Client's deposit shall be refunded less 10%. Or they may apply the whole deposit amount on a future trip.
- B. If Client terminates this Agreement after the time described in (A) above, Outfitter shall keep Client's deposit.

- Weapon and ammunition. Practice with your method of take. Plan to be accurate with archery equipment out to 50 yards and practice with a rifle to at least 300 yards.
- Personnel items, backpack, and clothing. We will help you plan and prepare for the hunt and what to bring to stay comfortable. If you do need something let us know and we will do what we can to help.
- Hunting license, and tags.
- Taxidermy services.
- Storage, butchering and processing of game beyond the basic field care. It can be hot, have a plan in place for the animal after the hunt.
- Alcohol or tobacco products – no alcohol may be consumed before or while hunting.

- If a shot is made and blood is drawn we will do everything we can to find the animal. Unrecovered animals are counted as a filled tag. Be proficient with your weapon of choice.
