Red duiker hunting in Ethiopia

Only one subspecies of Forest Duiker occurs in Ethiopia. Although the name has been shortened to Red Duiker by hunting outfitters in Ethiopia, it should be noted that the correct name is Harvey’s (Red) Duiker. Harvey’s Duiker is a heavyset, reddish Duiker with dark-coloured legs and differs from its close cousin, the Red or Natal Red Duiker with longer horns and darker colouration with only a relict population remaining in southern Ethiopia. They respond well to predator calls and are often called into shooting range by the local people who act as guides in the region. Classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, no special hunting permits are required.
