Impala hunting in Mozambique

An Impala is a graceful, commonly hunted species by most first time hunters to Africa and is used extensively as camp rations and bait animals for leopard hunts in Mozambique. Nicknamed the “McDonalds of the Bush” as they are on every predator's menu. Both males and females are reddish-brown with white underparts and only the rams have horns. Impala is found mostly in the drier western and northern regions of the country away from the eastern coastal plains. Although classified as a Southern impala, an Impala hunted in Niassa province of Mozambique is called a Johnson’s Impala. Impala is one of the more vocal African antelope during the rut. Displaying males snort and grunt, at times sounding like a pig to the untrained ear or first-time hunters to Africa who are not aware of these loud noises that they produce day and night. Besides the snorting and grunting, they extend their tails and will aggressively chase away unwanted males from the herd. Prearranged hunting licenses are required to hunt an Impala and no special permits are required to export this species.
