About hunting in New Brunswick
The Canadian Maritime province of New Brunswick is full of rugged and scenic natural beauty with magnificent hardwood and evergreen forests. The northern part of the province is mountainous and forested; here you will find the remote and rugged Miramichi Highlands as well as the Chaleur Uplands and the Notre Dame Mountains, which reach 2,680 feet. The eastern and central portions of the province consist of forested lowlands with an abundance of swamps, lakes, and rivers.
New Brunswick has an excellent and growing population of large black bears, and it offers both spring and fall seasons for large bruins. Bear hunts are typically conducted over bait, and nonresident success rates average between 60 and 70 percent. Moose populations are also doing well, with an estimated 30,000 moose throughout the province. Nonresident moose hunters must use the services of a licensed guide, and success rates are as high as 80 percent. White-tailed deer hunting is also popular, with a population of some 85,000 deer, and nonresidents can buy over-the-counter buck licenses.

Kovack Guide Services Inc
Outfitter
Steve Kovack is the owner of this guide service and has multiple guides that work with him. On my trip we had Gino who was an excellent and humorous guide. Prior to arriving at Bear camp Steve was available to answer all my questions in regard to logistics and equipment necessary to make my hunt much more comfortable and successful.
During our hunting days Steve and Gino worked extremely hard to make sure the hunters had the best opportunity to harvest a bear. They would go out each morning and check the bait sites and the cameras and would put the hunters on the best sites for the day. Steve and Gino really care about the hunters being successful and do everything in their power to give us hunters every chance to harvest a bear.
Steve works with a local butcher (Kevin) who is also a taxidermist. Kev does great work at a very affordable price. While I have been on bear hunts previously, I have never harvested a bear, and on this trip, I got two. I learned a lot about bears from Steve and Gino, which made this a fantastic and memorable trip for me.

Half Moon Outfitters

Upon arrival to camp in the pristine and vast wilderness of New Brunswick, Canada, my son Joshua and I had the pleasure of meeting Marco Vachon, our guide and co-owner of a new outfit named Pourvoirie Half Moon Outfitters. Didn't take us long to realize his passion for hunting and his knowledge of bear is second to none! As for the hunt, the rut was in full swing and let me tell you, Marco put us on numerous bears most days. On my 2nd evening on stand, I had so many bears, I lost count, as they started running, weaving and circling around my stand from every direction, with more lurking in the shadows, only to blow their cover while growling or chasing another passing bear! I was content to just watch the show, however, they left me pinned in my stand at the end of the evening, having to wait for Marco to get me out. If he only knew what I was seeing from above...I was bettin' on the bears! LOL!! On the 4th evening, Josh and I barely made it into our stands (14 miles apart) at 4:30 before we had bears in front of us. Josh, who was dying with anticipation, made a perfect shot with his bow and watched his bruin expire within 12 yards of his stand. His 1st archery bear! I also arrowed a big boar. However, recovering it after finding a bloody arrow with no blood trail required Marco's expertise and keen eye in the thick brush to find it. This was also my 1st archery kill and potential P&Y bear with a green skull score of 18 7/16" and weight of 304#. I'd like to give a big shout out to Marco, Mario and Phil for all their help and generosity this past week! These guys went the extra miles, literally, transporting us to/from the airport, recovering and delivering our lost luggage, cooking us delicious meals and reviewing hundreds of pics with us each day to give us the best chance at a trophy bear. We'll have fond memories of our new friends north of the border and the fun and excitement we shared. Thanks Pourvoirie Half Moon Outfitters, you rock!
Black flies and mosquitoes. Highly recommend a ThermoCell and bug suit.

I traveled from Belgium to hunt with Half Moon Outfitters last spring, and the experience exceeded all my expectations. On my very first sit, I harvested a mature boar with my crossbow—a moment I’ll never forget! The team’s dedication, expertise, and well-prepared bait sites made all the difference. I’m already looking forward to returning next season!....
