Hartebeest hunting in Mozambique {{ totalToursString }}
The Common Hartebeest is divided into seven subspecies and some hybrids. The only Hartebeest found in Mozambique is Lichtenstein’s Hartebeest. The Hartebeest distribution and numbers increase from south to north with the largest concentrations being in the central and northern regions.
Many hunters are familiar with the Red or Cape Hartebeest if they have hunted in Southern Africa. Body shape wise these animals are pretty similar however the Lichtenstein Hartebeest colour is a golden brown with a light patch on the rump, darker coloured back and no dark colouring on the face, like a Red Hartebeest.
When viewed from the front, Lichtenstein Hartebeest's horns are crescent-shaped with backwards-pointing tips. Both males and females have horns. These animals are normally found in small herds and each herd has a dominant bull.
Hartebeest is listed as a species of least concern by the IUCN.
