Zebra hunting in Zimbabwe

Zebra are one of Africa’s most recognisable animals. Zimbabwe only has one species of Zebra, a Plains Zebra known as a Chapman’s Zebra and very similar to Burchell’s Zebra. Both species have shadow stripes but the Chapman’s Zebra’ stripes continue past the knee. Zebra can be hunted in the government and community hunting concessions of southern, western and northern Zimbabwe Lowlands. These areas include the popular hunting areas of Matetsi adjoining Hwange National Park and throughout the Zambezi Valley. The black and white striped patterns found on a Zebra, are like a fingerprint and each animal can be individually identified by these patterns. They are grazers, often found in association with Blue Wildebeest which can make for a difficult stalk with so many alert eyes on the lookout for an approaching hunter. Zebra skins may be exported from Zimbabwe without any restrictions. Classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, no special hunting permits are required.
