Western Kob hunting in Central African Republic

The Western Kob are well-adapted to grassland environments, making them a sought-after target in the Central African Republic (CAR). They flourish in open, flat terrains that provide ample fresh grazing near permanent water sources. Female Kobs frequently form large herds, sometimes exceeding a thousand individuals, especially during their search for lush green grass. During the dry season, these herds are often followed by male bachelor groups, which can number over a hundred. Kob are a robust and medium-sized antelope, that shares close relations with Reedbuck, Lechwe and Waterbucks. Its coat ranges in colour from golden to reddish-brown, highlighted by a distinct white throat patch and underbelly. Only the males sport thick, lyrate-shaped horns. In floodplains with high kob densities, most males establish territories, while others gather in clusters known as leks. Although they are abundant and widely distributed, Kobs are classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN. This classification means no special import or export permits are required for hunting them. However, hunters must secure kob hunting licenses before setting out on their safari adventures.
