Rakaia Red Stag

More about us
Our company was established in 1987 and operates in 1 territory.
- This is your opportunity to hunt High Peak Station - the premier Red Stag hunting estate in New Zealand.
- We promise more acres and greater trophy choice for the hunter than any other estate in New Zealand. High Peak is a ten-thousand-acre, family-owned estate hunting destination. Located near the famous Rakaia River in the Canterbury High Country of New Zealand’s South Island, we provide personalised adventures for guests seeking to hunt Red Stag and other New Zealand big game species. Hosting a limited number of discerning hunters each season with emphasis quality fair chase hunting and genuine Kiwi hospitality, we are New Zealand’s premier estate hunting experience.
- We guarantee you a shot at a mature trophy-class example of the species you book for, and a 100% money back satisfaction guarantee on your hunt. Please note that all our packages can be upgraded or modified where possible at any time up to and during the hunt itself.
- Important: The majority of New Zealand red deer hunting operations listed on BYH offer fenced estate hunting, regardless of claims to the contrary. There are a few genuine free range operators, however it is rare to find a genuine free range stag exceeding 300 inches. If you're looking for an animal larger that that, chances are it will be an estate hunt. In this case, it is important to select a quality, larger estate (1000+ acres) for a fair-chase experience.
About this hunt
New Zealand's finest estate hunting experience. Family-owned and operating New Zealand's largest independently-audited, NZAGE-certified game estate at nearly 5000 acres, we provide hunters with greater area, trophy choice and fair-chase principles than any other New Zealand property.
This 5-day hunt is for a Red Stag up to 400 inches SCI - a truly classic Red Stag trophy. Our Red Deer herd features stags from 350 inches to 700-plus inches. All animals are fair game to any hunter and hunts can be upgraded at any time up to and during the hunt itself.
A second hunter can join the hunt for a savings of $1000 per person over the single hunter price, hunting 2x1. Companions can join the hunt for $1995, all-inclusive.
This all-inclusive hunt is based from our hunters' lodge located in the heart of the 10,000 acre property. With 6 rooms and a maximum of 6 hunters at any one time, the lodge is the perfect sanctuary for the discerning hunter. We also offer a back-country cabin for an authentic 'bush hunt' experience.
On the estate you can hunt Red Stag, Fallow Buck, Bull Elk, Arapawa Ram, Pacific Goat, Wild Boar and Small Game. Our Alpine species, Tahr and Chamois, can be hunted on private land within a day trip of the estate.

Where you will hunt
Territory
The game estate is the largest independently audited and certified hunting estate in New Zealand. Bounded by our farming operation to the south and east and the Korowai-Torlesse Tussocklands Park to the north and west. The area is approximately two thousand hectares (4500 acres) of contiguous hunting land. The terrain is a mix of open tussock grassland, native beech forest, steep hill country and easy ridges. Over 30 miles (50 kilometres) of tracks encircle the estate’s perimeter and high ridges, allowing vehicular access to a range of critical vantage points for spotting game.. This aspect makes our station especially suitable for those with limited mobility or time, but who still want a fair-chase hunt on an expansive estate. Of course, for those wishing to stalk on foot, we simply leave the vehicle at the bottom of the hill and start walking.
