Established in 2024 our company offers guided hunting and trapping trips in northern Penobscot and Aroostook counties, Maine.
Head guide Christopher Davila has over 20 years experience hunting / trapping bears, predators and furbearers across the country and personally sees to all the preseason hunt preparations, from setting up and running camp to sourcing and hand mixing the bait for the year. Bait sites and stands are placed as early as legally allowed and situated in ways to encourage daylight activity from mature bears. We limit the number of client spots per week (4 a week during the 2025 bear season) and keep all sites baited and regularly tended regardless of booked numbers to ensure multiple active baits per client.

About this hunt

Black bear hunting and trapping over bait in Northern Maine during the 4th week of the 2026 season Baits sites are pre-baited starting 30 days before the start of the season and tended throughout the baiting and trapping seasons. Sites are set up in a way to encourage daylight activity as well as to attract and hold as many bears as possible throughout the season. Maine is the last state in the lower 48 to allow trapping as a harvest method for Black bears. This package allows you to tag a second bear during your trip by trapping as well as offers 2 extra nights to connect with a targeted bear ( Traps can be set and checked on Sunday when hunting is not allowed) Hunters will arrive on sunday and after checking in and settling into camp we will head out to set the trap on an active site. Traps will be checked first thing every morning before breakfast and will be set until the morning of departure As a trapped bear can be dispatched any time of day or night if possible cellular trail cameras will be posted over the trap and if a bear is caught during the night between scheduled checks we will immediately head out to dispatch it. Hunt includes ● 7-day / 6-night primitive camp lodging. ● Meals and Non-alcoholic beverages ● A 100-yard range is available to check the zero of your chosen hunting weapon. ● A licensed Maine Guide. ● Transportation to and from hunting areas. ● Recovery and field care of harvested game. ● Transportation of harvested game to the closest check station and local game processor from provided processor lists if desired. Not Included in Hunt price: ● All applicable licenses and tags required for the hunt. ● Personal hunting gear. ● Chosen hunting weapon and ammunition. ● Taxidermy / Game processor fees OTC Black bear permit and Maine Hunting license required Bear trapping permit is required and must be purchased from the Maine IFW office in Augusta previous to arrival.

Most of the bear hunt areas are in wilderness or at the least extremely rural areas. As such cell phone reception can be non-existent and many roads near camp are unpaved. The bait sites themselves are set in dense timber with many having thick ground cover as well. Moose Hunters will have to contend with everything from dense brush with visibility measured in feet to logging clear cuts hundreds of yards across. terrain ranging from low-lying swampland to rolling mountainous terrain.

Base camp

Located in Ludlow Maine, base camp consists of several campsites furnished with Yurt / Canvas walled style tents, outhouses and outdoor showers. Camp also includes a 100 yard rifle / Archery range, covered dining area, a firepit, knife and axe throwing range, a game shop with tabletop games and is located approximately 10 minutes from the town of Houlton. We are currently in the process of development with more amenities under construction.

Big Game

Maine’s big game species are White-tailed deer, Moose, Black bear, and Wild turkey. Maine issues a general Big Game Hunting License to residents and non-residents which covers most game (Moose and Turkey require additional permits).

Deer: With a big game license, a hunter may take one antlered deer annually. Taking an antlerless deer is only allowed if the hunter obtains an Antlerless Deer Permit through Maine’s lottery which is held in summer and is open to both residents and non-residents.

Moose permits are run by lottery. Hunters (residents and non-residents) must apply each year by May for a chance to win a Moose permit allowing the harvest of one moose of a specified sex in a specific wildlife management district during the assigned week in fall. Non-residents are capped (no more than ~10% of permits).

Black bear requires no lottery, but hunters must purchase a Bear Permit in addition to their big game license if hunting Bear prior to the general firearms deer season. During the firearms deer season a big game license alone lets a hunter take a Bear with no additional permit.

Wild Turkey hunting in Maine requires a Turkey Permit in addition to a base license The permit covers both spring and fall seasons. There is no lottery for turkeys – permits are unlimited.

Small Game

Maine’s small game includes partridge, snowshoe hare, woodcock, pheasant (stocked in limited areas), migratory birds as well as furbearers like coyote, fox, raccoon. A standard Small Game Hunting License allows hunting all of these species.

Woodcock hunting requires an additional free HIP registration plus a Maine Migratory Bird Permit.

Waterfowl hunting requires a Maine State Migratory Waterfowl Permit and the Federal Duck Stamp.

Minimum Hunter Age

The minimum age to get a junior hunting license in Maine is 10 years old. Children under 10 may accompany adults but may not hunt or tag game. Juniors (ages 10–15) can hunt with a junior license, which requires them to be under direct adult supervision of a licensed adult at all times. At age 16, a hunter needs to purchase an adult license and must have completed hunter education. Maine’s apprentice program allows those 16 or older who have not done hunter ed to buy an Apprentice License (available to both residents and non-residents).
