The lands of this Reserve correspond to the southern foothills of the Cantabrian Mountains, with a very rugged terrain, involving significant elevation changes from its lowest points, located at approximately 1,000 meters above sea level, to its highest point, Curavacas Peak, at 2,520 meters above sea level. In the Carrión River valley, the steep slopes with little vegetation cover and a predominance of rock stand out, with valleys of extensive shrub cover and varied seasonal colors, while in the Pisuerga basin, on the other hand, the presence of extensive wooded areas that sit on a less pronounced relief stands out. The Fuentes Carrionas Reserve offers the ideal habitat for most of the big game species declared as game in Castile and León, resulting in the proven quality of their trophies.
