Roan hunting in Cameroon {{ totalToursString }}
There are six recognised subspecies of Roan in Africa of which the Western Roan occurs in the northern savannah regions of Cameroon.
Roan is one of Africa’s largest antelope, with a pale reddish-brown body colour and a black and white masked face. They have long ears and both males and females have backward curving horns. As for habitat, they prefer open woodlands with tall grass near water.
Roan, like most antelope, graze early mornings and late afternoons and can often be found lying up in the heat of the day on the floodplains near water. Like Sable, both sexes of Roan can ably defend themselves from large predators.
Although their numbers are declining, Roan is still listed as a species of least concern by the IUCN.
