Reedbuck hunting in Tanzania

Reedbuck is a medium-sized antelope with ridged forward curving horns. Of all the African antelope, this antelope's colouring, size variations and some its habits most resemble a White-tailed Deer. Three species of Reedbuck occur in Tanzania. Common Reedbuck may be hunted in the western (Moyowosi) and central regions (Kizigo and Rungwa) of the country, the Bohor Reedbuck can be hunted in the north (Maswa), southern (Selous) and western (Moyowosi) areas of the country and Chandler’s Mountain Reedbuck are found at higher elevations (hills) of Masailand. Reedbuck are nocturnal grazers and spend the better part of the day hunkered down in the long grass. Even the Mountain Reedbuck is difficult to see when lying down amongst the rocks. Sometimes all that is visible is just the tips of the horns sticking out above the grass. They will lie in the grass until you are virtually upon them when approached before scampering off, flashing their white tails. If you are detected from a distance they make a loud whistling alarm call. Reedbuck is classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN and no special import and export permits are required. All three species of Reedbuck may be hunted on a minimum of a 7 day hunting license in Tanzania.
