Puku hunting in Zambia

Puku hunting in Zambia involves pursuing an Impala-sized species native to southern and central Africa, particularly in the grasslands and floodplains of Zambia. Two subspecies are found in Zambia, the Common Puku (or Vardon's Kob) in southwestern Zambia and the Senga Puku in northern Zambia. Puku occurs in the Kafue Basin and Lower Zambezi. However, most Puku are hunted in the Bangweulu Swamps and the Luangwa Valley. Isolated pockets of Puku also occur on some private game farms in Zambia. Puku have prized reddish-brown coats and elegant horns, making it a popular target among trophy hunters. Conservation efforts and controlled hunting are essential to maintain the population and protect the species from overhunting. Puku is classified as near threatened by the IUCN but can be hunted subject to the Zambian Wildlife Authority regulations.
