Lord Derby Eland hunting in Cameroon

Lord Derby Eland also known as Giant Eland is Africa’s largest antelope. This is the only Eland species that occurs in Cameroon. These massive beasts are a more chestnut rufous colour than their close cousins and have longer horns. They also have a very characteristic well-pronounced dewlap. Lord Derby Eland is found in the northern savannah regions of the country. This can be one of the toughest hunts in Africa, as the animals are tracked on foot under hot balmy conditions and often require a long exhaustive walk to catch up and shoot one of these magnificent animals. High concentrations occur in well-managed areas so choose your outfitter and area carefully as this will make for an easier hunt. Lord Derby Eland is classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, no special export permits are required.
