Kirk's Dik-dik hunting in Tanzania

Kirk’s Dik-Dik is a small antelope with a recognisable protruding snout, big eyes and a Duiker-like tuft of hair on its forehead. They are predominantly brown in colour; their overall colour shading varies slightly according to their habitat. Dik-Dik’s belong to the Pygmy Antelope group of species and are mostly native to East Africa. Dik-Diks prefer more arid habitats and are widely distributed over the country except in the west. Recognised as a Masailand special, they are also hunted in Maswa, Selous and Rungwa regions. Dik-Diks are territorial and found in monogamous pairs, so if you find the female the male will always be nearby. They are well adapted to their semi-arid surrounds, water independent and able to acquire enough moisture from the browse material upon which they feed. Only the males have horns and like most small antelope if the horns protrude beyond the ears you are looking at an exceptional trophy. Classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, no special export permits are required but a minimum of a 16- day hunting license must be pre-arranged prior to hunting.
