About hunting in Oklahoma

The sweeping plains of Oklahoma evoke images of cowboys and Indians: This state was once a government-created territory for Native Americans, and it was also a major route for cattle drives in the late 1800s. The high plains in the northwestern corner of the state are mostly flat to rolling; the southwestern part of the state is also a plains region but dotted with small mountain ranges such as the Antelope Hills. The Ozark and Ouachita Mountains rise along the eastern third of the state, with the highest elevations in the east. This varied geography means the state is a great hunting destination, home to a wide variety of wildlife, including white-tailed deer, elk, pronghorn, black bears, wild turkeys, and a variety of upland game and migratory birds. Oklahoma is a sleeper destination when it comes to having a great chance to take home a trophy white-tailed buck, and Oklahoma is now routinely featured on national hunting shows and is showing up on the bucket lists of trophy whitetail hunters everywhere. Deer inhabit a variety of Oklahoma habitats, including dense cross timber oaks, wide open mesas, pine-covered hills, rolling plains, and bottomland cypress swamps. There are three species of wild turkeys in Oklahoma: Easterns in the east, Rio Grandes in the central part of the state, and Merriams in the far west. There are also quite a few hybrid turkeys, especially where the ranges of the Rios and Easterns overlap. Black bears are present in southeastern Oklahoma, and archery and muzzleloader bear hunts are offered in the fall. There are large free-ranging elk herds on the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, as well as at Pushmataha, Cookson Hills, Spavinaw, and Cherokee wildlife management areas. Small herds also inhabit private land in Kiowa, Comanche, and Caddo counties. Pronghorn antelope are found in the western part of the state and can be hunted in Cimarron and Texas counties. Upland birds and waterfowl include bobwhite and scaled quail, pheasants, woodcock, doves, ducks and geese, and sandhill cranes. There are also hunting opportunities for feral hogs and prairie dogs in some regions of the state. Hunters in Oklahoma must wear 400 square inches of blaze orange above the waistline and on the head. Words alone can not explain how extravagant and extraordinary this place is… from the land to the animals and even the people my girlfriend and I have met from day one to the very last. The acreage is just astounding and beautiful, and the animals we saw were so beautiful and majestic I took in everything I possibly could during my stay, and this is a place I would love to return to. The people that have created this beautiful paradise for others to enjoy are by far some of the most kind and heartfelt people I have met in a long time and reminded me all the way down to the heart and soul, what southern hospitality is like, and brought back my childhood of living in the south. I would put this place and people at the top of my list of places to book with. Thank you Circle M Lodge for the amazing experience and time shared I plan to see you again next year!

If we could give Circle M Lodge more than ten stars, we absolutely would! My boyfriend and I came for a hunting trip, and from the minute we arrived, we felt like part of the family. The family who runs this lodge puts so much heart into everything they do. Their kindness and southern hospitality made our stay special, and they bent over backward to make sure we were comfortable, happy, and having a wonderful time. They were also incredibly helpful throughout our hunt, guiding us to the best areas, helping us find the hogs, and doing everything they could to make sure we had a successful and memorable experience. The home-cooked meals were absolutely amazing, the rooms were lovely and comfortable, and the property is gorgeous. Seeing the incredible variety of animals made us feel like we were on an African safari without ever leaving the United States! As beautiful as the property is, it’s the people who make Circle M Lodge unforgettable. You can feel how much they care about their guests, and we left with wonderful memories and so much appreciation for the family who welcomed us. We cannot recommend Circle M Lodge highly enough. Thank you for making our trip so special!

Every detail of this hunt was amazing! The cabin we stayed in was secluded and beautiful. You will never run out of things to do during the day. There are so many ponds to hop around and fish. The hunting itself, Brian and Charles get you set up each day in your blind and you will not be bored during the hunt! While you wait for it to get closer to dark and the hogs to come in you will see various wildlife. Food, you will never go hungry!! Kelsey's cooking is phenomenal! I booked this as a surprise for my husband and 2 boys for Christmas, hoping they would love it because they've never been on a hog hunt. It did not disappoint! It was everything they thought and more! They said this was the best vacation I have ever planned and asked before we even left to book for next year.

Dang neighboring farmer likes to operate his tractors while you trying to hunt at times. That man needs to calm down. Guess he mad at the world. Anywho, great place to check out.
