Eland hunting in Zimbabwe {{ totalToursString }}
When hunting Eland in Zimbabwe you would actually be targeting a Livingstone’s Eland, sometimes referred to as a Patterson’s Eland in East Africa. Both sexes carry horns, the bulls are more heavily set bodies, with a large dewlap and are actually Africa’s largest antelope. Bulls have thicker horns than the cows and a mature bull will have a tuft of dark brown or black hair growing on its forehead.
Eland is found across the country but more commonly hunted in the government and community concessions in southern, western and northern Zimbabwe.
A traditional Eland hunt may involve a long walk while tracking and stalking a suitable bull. When their spoor is located, the trackers will start the arduous task of following the animal and closing down the distance between the animal and the hunting party. If you get close enough you will be able to hear the clicking of their hoof bones.
Classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, no special hunting permits are required.
