Dwarf Buffalo, also known as the Forest Buffalo is found in the equatorial forest belt of West Africa and is the smallest subspecies of African Buffalo. Not only is there a weight differentiation but they also have smaller horns and range in colour from blackish with a red tint to reddish-brown with a darker facial area. Herd sizes are between 5 and 20 animals dominated by one or two bulls.
Dwarf Buffalo may be hunted in the forested areas of Cameroon.
Dwarf Buffalo are primarily grazers and mostly hunted in the small forest clearing, around salt licks and swampy forest glades. Once located or fresh spoor is found then the Pygmy trackers will use their local knowledge and experience to track these animals in these very wet, dark and humid conditions. Teamwork is the order of the day for a successful hunt and the average shooting distance is 25 yards due to the thick cover.
Dwarf Buffalo are classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN and no special export permits are required. A prearranged license must be purchased before your hunt begins.
