Dove hunting in Tanzania

Doves are normally hunted as a mixed bag which includes Ducks, Geese, Spurfowl, Francolin, Sandgrouse and Guineafowl. There are 11 species of Doves found in Tanzania of which only 6 are likely to be hunted. These include African Mourning Dove, Dusky Turtle Dove, European Turtle Dove, Laughing Dove, Red-eyed Dove and Ring-necked Doves. Doves can be hunted throughout the country. Only a handful of outfitters offer specialised bird hunting trips. Doves can be hunted throughout the day and mainly shot during the warmers part of the day between a morning upland bird shoot and afternoon waterfowl shoot. A Tanzania Bird Shooting license allows a total bag combination of 50 birds per gun per day. There are also 6 pigeon species which may be also loosely classified under the Dove species. These are Speckled Pigeon, Afep Pigeon, African Olive Pigeon (Rameron), Eastern Bronze-naped Pigeon (Delegorgues), African Green Pigeon and Pemba Green Pigeon. Doves are classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, no special hunting permits are required besides the standard Tanzanian hunting license which will be arranged by your outfitter.
