Chobe Bushbuck is a striking rusty-red colour with considerable local and individual variation in spot patterns and stripes. The Chobe Bushbuck has more spots on its flank compared to the more Common Cape Bushbuck found in South Africa. They are the smallest of the spiral-horned species. The females are lighter in colour than the males and have no horns. In Zimbabwe, the Chobe Bushbuck is found along the Zambezi and Chobe River systems, from whence it derives its name. Chobe Bushbuck are a water-dependent species found in thick cover during the day and moving out into the more open areas to feed under the cover of darkness. They are best hunted in the early morning and late afternoon. Wounded Bushbuck must be treated with respect and have been known to attack dogs and hunters alike during a follow-up. Chobe Bushbuck are classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, no special import or export permits are required other than a prearranged hunting license.
