Where to hunt Cape Grysbuck
Cape Grysbuck, also known as Southern Grysbuck are the most commonly hunted of the two Grysbuck species. They are an endemic species only found in the coastal Fynbos and Valley Bushveld biomes of the Eastern and Western Provinces of South Africa. The majority of specimens are taken in the Eastern Cape.

Cape Grysbuck may be hunted either on a 1x1 or 2x1 basis in South Africa with a daily rate fee of between $300-450 per day. Trophy fees for Cape Grysbuck range from $850 - 1950. Additional costs may involve night hunting fees, a form of overtime payment charged by some outfitters.

When to hunt Cape Grysbuck?
Cape Grysbuck may be hunted year-round in South Africa. The best months for hunting Grysbuck are the dry months of June through October when the vegetation is sparser, the grass is short and visibility at its best. This helps tremendously when either hunting during the day or at night.

Hunting methods
Being primarily a nocturnal animal, Cape Grysbuck are much more difficult to hunt than Sharpe’s Grysbok. A walk and stalk in their fynbos habitat along roads, near rivers and old agriculture fields may bring the desired result. In many instances, Cape Grysbuck are hunted at night by driving around shining a light. When hunting at night from the back of a pickup during the winter months (June – August), you need to ensure you are warmly dressed to keep out the cold chill.
Why hunt Cape Grysbuck?
Grysbuck means “Grey Buck'' in Afrikaans, a name that is derived from the description of the grey and white coarse hairs scattered across the Grysbuck’s body. A dedicated hunter wanting to shoot a Grysbuck will have to apply all their skills to shoot one of these crafty animals. They are best mounted as a full-body mount with some habitat or as a pedestal mount with other members of the ‘Tiny Ten’.
