Cape buffalo hunting in Zambia
We found 3 hunts
Cape Buffalo, are known to have a cantankerous bad attitude and is referred to by many hunters as “Black Death”. When wounded they often seek revenge by lying in wait for hunters during a follow-up operation, making them a very dangerous adversary. These grumpy old bulls are known as “Dagga Boys” and when not hunted should be shown respect by walking around them to avoid an unprovoked attack.
Cape Buffalo are mainly hunted in the Luangwa Valley where herds of over a thousand strong may be encountered. During the dry season, dust plumbs can be seen from miles away as these massive herds make their way to the water. Trophy quality is good and hunters are encouraged to only shoot the older hard-bossed animals.
The traditional way to hunt a Buffalo is to pick up a suitable large track where an animal has crossed the road or when you encounter fresh signs at a water hole or natural mineral lick. The best part of this hunt is watching the trackers use their skills to track down these animals, all the while taking the wind direction into account especially once you get closer to the herd.
Cape Buffalo (African Buffalo) are classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN and no special export permits are required. A Buffalo hunting license must be purchased before your hunt commences.
