Buffalo hunting in Zimbabwe

Only one subspecies of the African Savanna Buffalo is found in Zimbabwe, this being the Cape Buffalo. Cape Buffalo are found from East Africa all the way down to Southern Africa but some of the best Cape Buffalo hunting is found in the Zambezi Valley, Zimbabwe where these naturally occurring herds are hundreds strong in some of the hunting concession areas. Known as 'Black Death' by many hunters, these bovine (cow) like beasts are still responsible for many non-hunter deaths in Zimbabwe where they come into conflict with local communities. Often these animals carry significant wounds, some from attempted poaching with snares, making them very dangerous animals that will charge on sight. Cape Buffalo are listed as a species of least concern by the IUCN and no special permits are required to hunt these animals.
