Boehm's Zebra hunting in Tanzania

Boehm’s Zebra, a subspecies of the Common (Burchell’s) Zebra and are one of Africa’s most recognisable animals. In East Africa, this Plains Zebra is referred to as a Boehm’s Zebra, also known as Grant’s Zebra and is the smallest of the seven subspecies. They differ from other Zebras as they have no shadow stripes, their black stripes are broader than the southern Burchell’s Zebra and their stripes go all the way down to the legs to their hooves. Boehm’s Zebra occur in a band from central Tanzania (Selous) across to the western parts of the country. Another population is found in Masailand stretching across to the Serengeti in the west. Boehm’s Zebra are often found in close association with Wildebeest and each individual can be recognised from their distinctive patterns. New-born foals stay close to their mother to imprint their patterns to be able to identify one another once they congregate in larger herds at a waterhole or during the migration. Boehm’s Zebra skins may be exported from Tanzania without any restrictions. Classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, no special hunting permits are required.
