Über die Jagd in Neuschottland
Nova Scotia is one of Canada's maritime provinces, and is the country’s smallest province in area after Prince Edward Island. The peninsula of Nova Scotia is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, with a rugged shoreline featuring numerous bays and estuaries. The scenic contrast of rolling green fields and high sea cliffs, as well as Nova Scotia’s friendly inhabitants, make this a popular destination for hunting and non-hunting tourists alike. Deer and bears are the big-game hunting draws for nonresident hunters in Nova Scotia, but there are also plenty of opportunities to hunt waterfowl and upland game. There is a moose season on Cape Breton Island, but it is open to Nova Scotia residents only. Black bears are numerous throughout the province and are hunted during the fall season, usually over bait; this is an excellent destination for affordable hunts for nice black bears. White-tailed deer hunting is also good in the farmland areas, with an average success rate of 25 percent. Nova Scotia has numerous outfitters specializing in both deer and black bears. Big-game seasons typically run through October and November. Nonresident hunters are required to show proof of having taken a sanctioned hunter education course in their region of residence or a valid hunting license from the last five years to purchase a Nova Scotia non-resident hunting license. They must also purchase a wildlife habitat stamp, and must hunt with a licensed guide or a resident who has obtained a special permit to guide.
