About hunting in New Brunswick

The Canadian Maritime province of New Brunswick is full of rugged and scenic natural beauty with magnificent hardwood and evergreen forests. The northern part of the province is mountainous and forested; here you will find the remote and rugged Miramichi Highlands as well as the Chaleur Uplands and the Notre Dame Mountains, which reach 2,680 feet. The eastern and central portions of the province consist of forested lowlands with an abundance of swamps, lakes, and rivers. New Brunswick has an excellent and growing population of large black bears, and it offers both spring and fall seasons for large bruins. Bear hunts are typically conducted over bait, and nonresident success rates average between 60 and 70 percent. Moose populations are also doing well, with an estimated 30,000 moose throughout the province. Nonresident moose hunters must use the services of a licensed guide, and success rates are as high as 80 percent. White-tailed deer hunting is also popular, with a population of some 85,000 deer, and nonresidents can buy over-the-counter buck licenses. Loved the cabin, and the experience! Different type of hunting than we are used to, but we saw and harvested bears.

Only wish we would have seen bigger bears. THere were big ones on camera and the next group who came in after us killed a couple of monsters.

Steve Kovack is the owner of this guide service and has multiple guides that work with him. On my trip we had Gino who was an excellent and humorous guide. Prior to arriving at Bear camp Steve was available to answer all my questions in regard to logistics and equipment necessary to make my hunt much more comfortable and successful. During our hunting days Steve and Gino worked extremely hard to make sure the hunters had the best opportunity to harvest a bear. They would go out each morning and check the bait sites and the cameras and would put the hunters on the best sites for the day. Steve and Gino really care about the hunters being successful and do everything in their power to give us hunters every chance to harvest a bear. Steve works with a local butcher (Kevin) who is also a taxidermist. Kev does great work at a very affordable price. While I have been on bear hunts previously, I have never harvested a bear, and on this trip, I got two. I learned a lot about bears from Steve and Gino, which made this a fantastic and memorable trip for me.
