Roan hunting in Tanzania
We found 1 hunt
Roan Antelope is Africa’s second-largest antelope, slightly larger than and with similar markings to a Sable with shorter horns. Named after their roan (brownish) colouring, they have a mask, like a Sable and even share similar habitats. Roan are a thickset animal with long pointed ears.
Roan are found in the underutilised long grass habitats within walking distance of permanent water sources in the central (Kizigo and Rungwa regions), western (Moyowosi region) and northern (Maswa regions) of Tanzania.
Both sexes carry horns and prefer peaceful tranquil areas away from other species. Being a water-dependent species, they may often be found resting near the water after drinking in the late afternoon. As evening approaches, they will set off for their favourite grazing areas.
Roan are listed as a species of least concern by the IUCN and no special import or export permits are required. A minimum of a 21-day hunting license is required to hunt Roan while you are in Tanzania.
