Oryx hunting in Zimbabwe
We found 1 hunt
Oryx is the genus (group) name for three species of animals. In this particular case, the name Oryx represents the species known as Gemsbok or Gemsbuck.
Two subspecies of Gemsbuck are found in Africa, the most hunted being the Common Gemsbuck. Named by the Dutch as a "Gansbok" after a Chamois from the apparent likeliness of these animals' facial colourings. Over time the name was adapted to Gemsbuck a species that represents the Kalahari and Namib Deserts of Southern Africa. Being a desert-adapted species Gemsbuck (Oryx) are only found in the more arid regions of western Zimbabwe.
Gemsbuck (Oryx) is classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN and no special permits are required to hunt these animals.
