Lithuania on map

Lithuania is located in the north-east of Europe, on the coast of the Baltic Sea, bordering Latvia to the north, Belarus to the east, Poland to the south, and the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad to the south-west.

About hunting in Lithuania

Located on the Baltic Sea coast, Lithuania is a small, level, wooded country may well be a “sleeper” hunting destination in Europe. Read more...

Lithuania is a small country in the north-west of Europe, some say - in its very center. Indeed, if you take Europe as a geometrical figure, and try to find its center of mass, it will be just a few kilometers away from Lithuania’s capital, Vilnius. Along with Latvia and Estonia, it is often referred to as one of the “Baltic States”, and indeed it does have its share of the Baltic Coast, as well as numerous lakes and rivers that provide habitat for waterfowl. Although there is hardly a point in Lithuania that would be more than an hour’s walk away from a human settlement, the country has a rich and diverse wildlife. Its terrain is rather flat, and the typical landscape is a mixture of dense woods, meadows, and fertile fields - a great combination for big-game animals such as red deer, roe deer, fallow deer, wild boar and moose. There is a steady population of the grey wolf, which is also an object of the hunt. In addition, Lithuania offers waterfowl and small-game hunting, including fur-bearers such as raccoon-dog, hares, and beaver. Hunting in Lithuania is an old tradition. Typically for the former Soviet Block nations, hunting in Lithuania is carried out by hunting clubs; however, there also exist hunting preserves in a more Western tradition, including some fenced areas. Many hunting clubs welcome international hunters, allowing them to participate in the local hunting tradition. Although Lithuania is not as well-known for its hunting opportunities, you may find that it leaves nothing to its better-known neighbors. Lithuania was the first Soviet republic to gain independence in 1990, and is a member of the European Union, NATO, the Schengen Border Agreement, and the Euro zone. It is easily accessible by air though the Vilnius International Airport, by car through Poland, or by ferry to the port of Klaipeda. Hide details

Price distribution

The daily rates for both driven and stalking hunts are typically on the order of 400 Euro a hunter a day. A certain number of trophies is usually included in the price of a driven hunt, although you always want to double-check it. Trophy fees for red and fallow deer are rather on the lower end, with the best red deer trophies not exceeding 2,000 Euro.

Hunting methods All hunting methods (5)

A large driven hunt is the order of the day for the local hunters, when it comes to big game; drivers may be assisted by hounds. Trophy hunting follows the usual spot-and-stalk routine, with calling added during the rut. There is a wide variety of available small game hunting methods, including bird hunting over pointing dogs and hare hunting with hounds. Hunting from high seats is also practiced.
