Vervet monkey hunting in Tanzania

Vervet Monkeys are silver grey-olive colour with a black face, hands and feet. In Northern Tanzania, these monkeys have a brownish back and generally pallid colouring. The use of their long tails makes them very efficient tree climbers. Ault males have very prominent blue genitalia. Vervet Monkeys occur throughout Tanzania and can be hunted countrywide. They can become real pests at hunting camps and will raid homesteads, fruit and vegetable gardens. This highly intelligent species is extremely vocal communicating through an assortment of chattering noises and alarm calls. In the wild, they feed on flowers, seeds, fruit and gum produced by Acacia and Albizia trees. This water-dependent species is equally at home on the ground or in the trees but will always return to the trees when danger approaches. Vervet Monkeys are considered a species of least concern by the IUCN. A prearranged hunting license must be purchased before the hunt begins. However, if trophies are imported to the United States, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has special import regulations that concern the importation of these trophies.
