We were formed in 1974 by Master Guides Jimmie C. and MaryAnn. Over the years, the business has grown to be one of the largest professional Guide/Outfitter operations in the State of Alaska. About this hunt

Hunt giant coastal Black Bears in Southeast Alaska’s protein-rich, salmon-fed Rainforest! We have hunts available in both spring and fall every year. Hunts take place from one of our Yachts that serve as "base camp." From there you access the hunting areas in smaller 16 -18 ft boats or “Skiffs.” Fall Black Bear hunting in southeast Alaska takes place along one of numerous streams where salmon spawn, during the months of September and October. Hunts are based from one of our custom vessels, with hunters venturing forth one-on-one to a separate hunting location each day; returning to a warm, dry boat and a hot meal each evening. Skiffs launched from the “base camp” vessel are used to access river estuaries, then hunts are a walk then sit style up the salmon streams in the beautiful old growth rainforest. This hunt offers the unique experience of being in some of the most magical environments on earth. Hunters are expected to be able to walk upwards of 2 miles in Simms wader and wading boots over slick moss covered rocks, logs, trees and uneven ground. Wolf season is open in the fall and we recommend all hunters obtain a tag just in case you are lucky enough to get a chance at one. Black Bear hunts are typically 6 days long. Black Bear square from 7ft to 8 1/2ft+ with skulls ranging from 17 - 22 inch. Please inquire for available dates!

We recommend that all travelers get full-flex tickets as you are traveling to the Last Frontier and weather will at times play a big part in getting in or out of Alaska. Bear hunters most generally fly into Petersburg, Alaska. From there, hunters proceed to a pre-designated Air Charter company where we have made all the arrangements, to be flown via float plane to our vessel awaiting your arrival in the field. Please take note of the travel details and dates included on your contract for booking of flights.

Cancellation

More than one year out 25% deposit. The balance of the 50% deposit due 1 year prior to trip.
Deposit refunded only if same trip is re-booked at full rate less a 20% Cancellation fee of total trip cost. In the event trip is not re-booked for any reason, the deposit shall be forfeited.
Payment for the trip is due 90 days prior to commencement of trip.
License, Tag, and Air Charter payable by January 1 of year of hunt; Non-refundable.
It is recommended that cancellation Insurance be purchased to protect your deposit.

Big Game

Big game hunting in Alaska includes many sought after species such as Moose, Caribou, Dall sheep, and many others.

Most hunts are general season, i.e. available with “over-the-counter” tags/permits, while certain high-demand hunts are allocated by lottery drawing. The application period for drawing permits is typically in November – December, with results announced in late winter. Both residents and non-residents can apply for most draws.

Non-resident hunters, in addition to purchasing Alaska annual hunting license, must buy an appropriate locking-tag for each big game animal hunted (e.g. moose tag, caribou tag) which needs to be affixed to the animal immediately after harvest and remain until the meat is processed.

Residents of Alaska do not need to buy tags for most species (except a locking-tag for brown bear or muskox in certain hunts).

Besides drawing options, some hunts are registration permits (first-come, first-served, often available in-season) or harvest tickets (free, but required for general hunts of species like moose, caribou, deer) which need to be carried in the field and returned to Fish and Game with harvest report.

Small Game

Small game in Alaska – including upland game birds (ptarmigan, grouse), waterfowl (ducks, geese), and small mammals like snowshoe hare – is generally available over the counter with no special draw. A standard hunting license allows residents and non-residents to hunt small game. However, migratory bird hunting does require acquiring Federal and State Duck Stamps. Additionally, Alaska requires proof of participation in the Harvest Information Program (HIP) for migratory bird hunters (a free HIP registration).

Upland game bird and small game hunting do not require tags or stamps, but bag limits and season dates vary by area.

Documents that you need for hunting in Alaska:

Alaska Hunting License – Available in Resident, Non-Resident, and Non-Resident Alien versions (e.g. an annual non-resident hunting license)
Permits/Harvest Tickets – a drawing permit (if you won a lottery), a registration permit, or a harvest ticket per huntable species
Non-resident hunters will need big game tags (Locking-Tags) for each big game species hunted
Residents need a locking-tag only for certain species (brown/grizzly bear and muskox in some hunts)
Hunter Education Certificate

Minimum Hunter Age

Alaska does not specify a minimum age for hunting, but there are strict supervision and education rules for young hunters. Hunters under 10 years old cannot hunt big game and must be under direct immediate supervision of a licensed adult if they accompany a hunt.

10+ years old - a successfully completed Hunter Education course is required.
