When your non-hunting wife starts picking times for your return, you have really found some place very special. The place is stunningly beautiful. However, what truly made the stay so special was the degree of obvious commitment to customer service exhibited by Martin and Danielle. From packing the salad dressing that I remarked was delicious in the provisions for our stay at the floating cabin to handling a snapping turtle, not only for safety of the turtle, to remove it from the trial, but to show it to me and educate my wife and me about it, the caring about the guests and the inhabitants of the land shone through brilliantly. The education about protection from mosquitos and the bears I was essential. They even offered advice on what to see on our stop on our way home.
It was sad to have to leave. The food was not only delicious, but professionally presented with kind service. The snacks were provided generously.The payment arrangement was done without pressure and with accommodation. The place was well maintained. Clean. The floating cabin was peaceful and quiet. You could really see that the owners/operators did whatever they could to make us enjoy our stay. We learned about maple syrup, bear baits, and actually rested and relaxed.
It was a great stay even if you removed the hunting part of it. Martin and Danielle remember that half of the people are there with a hunter. Their service made it enjoyable for that half who didn't want to go in the first place.
Turning to hunting, the advice regarding the mosquitos and black flies, with Danielle even going above and beyond, negated the problem. Instead of being eaten alive, we enjoyed the hunt. The assistance with the hunting resulted in a successful hunt. My first bear, which brave Martin went out to retrieve with me was processed by Martin, who then fed us. When I asked to help drag the bear, Martin insisted that I not need to help. They had already informed me on at what distance to zero my rifle. The shot was as Martin said it would be. So, even I, who am not the best, was successful first try.
