Having been a hunting and fishing lodge owner for 25 yrs, I was very happy with all aspects of the hunt. Great country, lots of game, and extremely knowledgeable guides. Hunted with crossbow.

Hunt of a Lifetime!

What did we like? Everything!! Long before our (my wife and I) trip to New Zealand Brent made sure that we had all the detailed travel information that we would need for planning. We had many additional questions that were specific to us and Brent not only answered each question clearly via email but also FaceTimed with us.
From the moment we arrived at the Masterton train station, we felt extremely welcome as our hunting guide picked us up and chatted with us as he drove us to the location of our accommodations. They showed us our private sleeping “cabin”, the house where we met up for the most delicious meals ever, and the lodge where we often hung out after hunts to visit and enjoy snacks and beverages. Huge shout out to Sarah and Tash who cooked all our fabulous meals and also helped us out with anything else we needed while we were there
The hunting? We could not have imagined a better experience!! Jesse was our personal hunting guide and he went to great lengths to help us find exactly the sizes, colors, and species of the animals we were seeking to harvest. He went above and beyond in every way, even taking us out for sight seeing at the beach/lighthouse and to town one afternoon to pick up an extra cooler bag to bring more meat home with us.
If you are looking for a high quality hunt in a friendly environment with amazing people, this is an excellent choice for you!!

They completely exceeded every expectation that we had. Truly one of the most amazing hunts we have been on. From the quality of the animals, to the physical hunts themselves, to the generosity and hospitality of everyone there. Taking a trophy of a lifetime at the top of a mountain in New Zealand with your son, words can not describe it. We have already started planning our 2nd visit to hunt the south and north islands with Brent and team. Can't wait to come back!!! Thank you Brent, Wendy, Adrian and Josh you are the BEST!!!

Mntn Hunters Outfitters had a large amount of good quality animals to choose from.
Josh, our guide, was informative, diligent in finding the right game when they were elusive and an all-around good guy.
The Moody's were gracious hosts that kept us well fed with delicious food and entertainment. Wendy was a wealth of information about the area and was the guide to various sites.
Cyclone Cook hampered the activities a little.

Hunting with Brent

The hunt was beyond my expectation. We could find a lot of species, red deer, fellow deer, rusa deer, rabbit, goats and ram in their mountain field. Brent taught me how to find and distinguish them by binoculars. I cannot forget my exciting moment of sneaking up behind our target and pull the trigger.
All meals were also special and made me full stomach every time . One morning, Brent and I shot a turkey and we ate that in diner. The words is not enough to explain the wonderful taste.
I would like to express my gratitude to Brent and Adrian. I could enjoy the difference of two cultures.They made my first time of New Zealand really special.

Brent Moody and his family were perfect hosts. Loved the interaction with the family. We hunted both islands. Particularly enjoyed the coastal region free range stag hunt, though we weren't quite prepared for the rain and mud which predominates the region. We happened to have exclusivity during the hunt, which made the experience all the more better. They delivered all the bells and whistles of the more expensive outfitters at a fraction of the costs. "Mum's" venison pizza was simply outstanding! The accomodations at the farm were very comfortable, as were the accomodations on the South Island for our tahr hunt. The cabin on the coast is a bit more rustic, but definitely had its charm. And, most importantly, we got what we came for -- a gold medal stag, a bronze stag (for my son) and a nice tahr!
If you are going to hunt New Zealand, you need to be prepared for incliment weather. The boots I wore in Colorado don't work so well there. I would recommend a boot with a high rubber band around the soles. Also, New Zealand is a bit deceiving -- it takes a lot longer to get from point A to point B than you would expect from simply looking at the map. Be sure to alot sufficient time for cross-country travel (which fortunately we did). I have nothing bad to say about the outfitter. They were terrific.

New Zealand Hunt with Brent Moody

Brent Moody was very personable, easy to work with on dates, answered questions about the hunt, gear and baggage, weather, getting through customs and worked with me on my gluten free diet. Brent took care of all arrangements from airline tickets, bus schedule, train transportation, and kept me informed of any changes. All of this was very important to me as I was travelling by myself.
The hunt itself was beyond my expectations. I had wanted to hunt for red stag for some time when I found this hunt. I told Brent that I was not a trophy hunter that I was looking more for a nice animal, an experience of hunting in NZ and seeing the country side and just listening to the sounds of the different animals and birds. It was amazing.
After walking some distance we sat on a ridge and glassed. After Brent retrieved the quad I asked if I could get a fallow deer; that fallow buck I had been watching. So we did. What a kick.
My red stag was spotted in the evening that same day. We watched him cross a ridge top and disappear. Suddenly he came up and over settling in to eat 110 yards away. Brent had me place my legs in the ditch of the trail and shoot prone from his pack. My up hill shot hit the mark and the stag came tumbling down. He did not know we were even there.
I was able to help Brent with dressing him out and skinning. I went with Brent to boil the skulls. That kid is very thorough.
He helped me save money by placing the (cut in half) antlers in a huge duffle bag to put on the airline as baggage. All paperwork was completed and I was able to get through customs; no problem. Hides were sent later.
After the hunt I was taken on a hike with Brent's Mom, Wendy. Spent one day delivering meat to customers with her and meeting locals. Brent's Mom and Dad, Wendy and Adrian had me out playing "ranch girl" helping them push hinds from one pasture to another. Was very interesting seeing first hand how the ranch works raising these animals.
There was no shortage of animals to look at and listen to as we rode the quad from one area to another.
I felt comfortable and safe and the food was excellent. Very gracious people. I highly recommend this outfitter.

I hunt all the time and all over the world, all I ask is that the hunts are as advertised. Unfortunately this is usually not the case and because of many disappointing hunts I have become very skeptical to say the least. Now for the complete other side of the coin, I recently booked and completed a hunt with this outfitter, it would have to be one of, if not the best hunt I have been on. It is very simple, Brent, Adrian and Wendy provided what they said they would. A beautiful, comfortable, place to stay, delicious home cooked food, spectacular country, magnificent game everywhere. This review is coming from a bowhunter with 19 hunts abroad and probably at least 30 supposedly hunts of a lifetime in the states. A hunt with these people is most definitely worth the time and money. This hunt and these people perform as advertised.
